Substantial award of damages for cyclist following road accident

A man who suffered multiple injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident as he cycled home has recovered a substantial sum in damages with the assistance of M R Law Solicitors.

Mr G was hit by a car as a result of which he fell from his bicycle. He sustained various physical injuries and lost consciousness. Over the next few months, whilst his physical symptoms improved he continued to suffer psychological consequences arising from the accident leading to him being unable to return to work.

Despite undergoing psychological treatment, his symptoms persisted and he eventually retired from his employment, as he was deemed unfit to return to work.

The man sought to recover damages from the insurers of the responsible party including a large claim for past and future losses of earnings.

Ann Mahoney, head of personal injury at M R Law comments:

“This was an unfortunate set of circumstances for our client as not only did he sustain the serious physical and psychological injuries arising from the accident, he then had the added trauma of being unable to return to his employment thereby suffering ongoing losses of earnings.

Our client was in the kind of employment whereby he had ultimate responsibility for the safety of others and such were his psychological symptoms that he was deemed unfit to return to work.

His ongoing symptoms eventually led to his retirement causing him financial concerns. However, I am pleased that we were able to quantify his claim quickly and resolve it to his satisfaction at a substantial sum in damages to provide him with at least some assurance for the future.”
