Damages for severe burns

M R Law has successfully recovered damages upon behalf of a client who suffered extensive burns whilst working in a restaurant.

The man was cleaning and draining an industrial sized deep fat fryer when without warning, the drainpipe began spraying hot fat out of the fryer over his hands, forearm and foot. He suffered extensive burns requiring a stay in hospital and a protracted period of dressing changes, steroid injections and other medication. The injured man suffered debilitating pain and other losses including his inability to return to his employment.

Following investigations into the claim, M R Law was able to secure a significant award of damages on his behalf. Ann Mahoney, head of Personal Injury at M R Law comments: “This unfortunate chain of events led to our client suffering extensive burns through no fault of his own. An employer is under an obligation to provide a safe place of work for their employees and sadly, on this occasion, the employer failed in their duty of care.

Accidents at work can have a profound effect on the injured person, even more so when they go on to suffer losses of earnings due to their inability to return to work because of their injuries. I am delighted on this occasion that we were able to assist our client in recovering the compensation he was due to ease his immediate financial concerns.”
